The Weekly Squish - Issue #2

Welcome back, everyone, to the second issue of the Weekly Squish! This week brings some a new featured build, a small teaser, and another game giveaway!

Buildoff

Buildoff is off to a great start this month, with several tree houses already being built! You'll have until July 9th to finish up your tree house. Any more information on the buildoff can be found on the Buildoff Topic.

Terraria & Starbound

Our Terraria and Starbound servers have survived their first week, and Fauxx has only had to put out several small fires, none of which consumed the entirety of his sanity, so we're off to a great start! Starbound has been very stable over the last week, but Terraria is being worked on almost daily, so please bear with us as we troubleshoot any problems that may arise. Any more information can be found in their specific sub-forums.

Featured Build

In each issue of the Weekly Squish, we're going to be taking a look at one build on the Minesquish server. These builds may not always be complete, but the creativity behind them is what we really want to shine a light on. Over the course of the week, if you see a build you'd like to be featured, or would like to submit your own, let us know! You can contact Fauxx here on the forums or on our Discord chat. He checks both more than he probably should in a day. This week's featured build is brought to us by Chiprock2. His yacht, "The Serenity"!

Image

Chiprock2 posted a forum topic here, featuring several screenshots that I'll post here, along with some of his thoughts.

Image

Normally I'm not a huge fan of builds that have no texture to them, however one genre it does work quite well for is ultra modern, and so with that I decided I would challenge myself to build within that theme, one that I have developed a huge interest in over the past few years, but never actually got around to building anything major for.

Again, if you'd like to talk to Fauxx about having your build featured, send him a PM here or on Discord. We're featuring one build a week, and would love to show off yours!

Dark Rumblings

As we all settle in to Greenleaf to start our new life, rumors have started to buzz around the great Willowshome. Talk of a skull, large and intimidating, carved into a mountainside, spreads among the denizens of Greenleaf. No one is sure who built it, or what treasures and monsters may lie in wait in the depths of the cave.

Giveaway

Lastly, we will be holding a giveaway for a copy of the Plants VS. Zombies GOTY! This giveaway will end on Sunday, June 25th, at midnight CST. There's nothing special to do to enter this giveaway, just leave a post below and you'll be entered into the drawing! You must have a steam account to redeem this prize.

The Weekly Squish - Issue #1

Hello Everyone! It's been a busy week here at Indiesquish and I hope all of you are having a great summer so far! As you may, (or may not!) know, the server has recently updated to version 1.12, the World of Color update! This is a very exciting time for all of us here, because with the coming of summer and the start of a new world, there's lots of time and space for fun!

Buildoff

The Buildoff competition's recent theme, "The Wild Wild West!", came to a close yesterday, with AtomicWaffles_ winning this round. You can find more information, along with pictures, in the topic for this theme. We have started the new Buildoff theme in celebration of the great Willowshome. The new theme is "Tree Houses"! This theme will end on approximately July 9th.

Terraria & Starbound

More exciting news, both our Terraria and Starbound servers have been brought back online, thanks to some quick troubleshooting from a horde of pixies that we definitely have under control and definitely are not afraid of. You can chat and share your screenshots of the server in each game's subforum.

He checks both more than he probably should in a day. For the first week, while everyone is finishing settling in for the journey ahead, we'll be taking a look at Willowshome, the big tree you spawn in on Greenleaf.

Image

Willowshome was built by several of the admin team over the course of a couple days. We decided to name the world Greenleaf, and with it, came the... green leaves.

Image

For me personally, I feel like building in a jungle brings lots of things to the table. The nights seem so much more dark, while the days seem much more relaxed, with lots of leaf cover and shade. This can be seen in Willowshome, where you start out at the top, out in the sun and looking out over the canopy, sunlight spilling over the trees. Yet if you travel down to the bottom, you're in another place completely. Undergrowth and shorter trees grow in under the jungle trees, almost covering the grass completely, and helping the canopy to blot out the sun.

Image

The interior of Willowshome serves a purpose as well, providing shelter and some of the amenities you may need to survive out in the world. These include, but are not limited to, a fully powered enchanting table, storage, alchemy stands, and more.

Again, if you'd like to talk to Fauxx about having your build featured, send him a PM here or on Discord. We're featuring one build a week, and would love to show off yours!
Giveaway

Lastly, we will be holding a giveaway for a copy of the Don't Starve Together Frontier Pack! This includes the base game, Don't Starve, along with the multiplayer version, Don't Starve Together. To enter the giveaway, simply post below about an adventure you've had in a video game. It doesn't have to be something that happened on Minesquish or any of or servers. We'd just like to read your stories! To redeem this prize you must have a Steam account! You have until Saturday, the 17th, at midnight CST.

Thank you for reading. This has been the first issue of the Weekly Squish. I'll be looking for ways to improve it and for more things to include as time goes on. If you've got any feedback or questions, leave them in the comments below and I or another admin will answer as soon as we can.

Squishbound updated to 1.3 - Spacefarer Update!

Our Starbound server is now running the newest update, version 1.3, the Spacefarer Update.
The rules are very similar to Minesquish.
  1. No griefing. Don't touch it if it belongs to someone else.
  2. No harassing other players.
  3. No swearing.
  4. Don't create large holes or similarly death-inducing death traps.

The IP is mc.indiesquish.com.

TerraSquish updated to 1.3.5.3!

The server does not have a whitelist and is open to all.
We're recommending folks only use 'softcore' characters.

(it IS an 'Expert World', but has NOT progressed to 'hard mode' yet)

EDIT by 1wolffan: We're also trying to encourage people to stay at similar tech-levels to players already on the server. That being said, we are disallowing hard mode until the admins decide everyone is capable of handling the harder stuff.

Minesquish updated to 1.12!

As of today Minesquish has been updated to version 1.12! Parrots have been spotted in the jungles around Willowshome. Keep an eye out!

If you haven't been whitelisted yet, you can check out the application page here!

Minesquish updated to 1.11.2!

Greetings all!

We've been hard at work over the last few days brainstorming and building to bring you a new home world, Greenleaf! Set in a tall tree in the middle of a dense jungle, there are many adventures to be had and homes to build! You can join the server by setting your version to 1.11.2 and connecting to the server IP: mc.indiesquish.com

The world currently has a border of 1000x1000 blocks, but will expand as more players start to move in.

With the release of 1.12 coming very soon, we will be updating to this new version as soon as we get a stable build!

If you are not yet on our whitelist, check out the Application page!

Have fun!

Build Off Challenge #71 - "Mini Game"

Hi guys,

It's awesome to see how creative you guys were during this challenge! We had a blast trying all your games out, so thanks in advance for that! :D
Now let's move onto the most favourite game this buildoff:

"Iceboat" by CreeperX3sssBOOM
Image
Game concept: You are in a boat on ice and have to shoot out the other players.

The arena could have been more buildwise, but the concept is great, it's a lot of fun to glide over the ice in a boat: you go very fast but with little control. We even made tagteams of 2 players in a boat to double the fun.
Lepharian has the idea of making a race track based of your game principle and I really want to turn it into a large arena/maze, so we'll make good use of your idea! :D (I cannot forsee atm when Lepharian and myself will have the time to make this, so bear with us ;) )

Now for the rest of the fun games! (in alphabetical order)

“JUMPAKAZOO!” by CosmicDonut
Image
Game concept: Parkours game with slime blocks and redstone (and loads of lava).

What makes this parkours a lot of fun is the use of slime blocks, they give you a big boost but also makes controlling the jumps a lot harder, good job!
The green works well with the orange of the lava and all the redstone is neatly packed away and a big plus for making the off button since this would have the potential of a lagmachine for sure :)

“The Towers” by _EmilyHurricane_
Image
Game concept: Build to the top as fast as you can with random provided blocks.

This was fun also, feels like it could be polished a bit more by automating it somehow (my redstone skills are insufficient but I'm sure others can work that out), but it was fun to race to the top when we played with 4 players.
One thing we really felt was lacking was some form of buzzer for the first one to reach the top. And fireworks according to Pook: "Everything’s better with fireworks!". It's a very colourful happy build which works well with the building principle, great job!

“Triple Jump” (this build was titleless, so I gave it one) by KidAwesomeTwo
Image
Game concept: Jump game

This was the hardest one by far, none of us could jump all 3 and make it to the other side, one player did manage to get to the other side by jumping 2 blocks and then over. It feels a little unfinished still, also because it was titleless and not fully build. We would have loved an 'off' button for the redstone, but maybe that was something that was still in the making.

“Temple of Doom!” by Koeki
Image
Game concept: Jumpy Puzzler

This game is also unfinished, but we could see what the idea was. The mossy cobblestone works well for this type of game and we can see this game being a lot of fun if it was finished and on a much larger scale (think dungeon size)!

“Lamp Lighters” by _SansBlueberry_
Image
Game concept: Musical Chair with lamps

We all felt it needs a lil more to be a full game, the way you are randomizing is awesome and clever, but it could have used some more motion to really feel like a finished game.
For example: you could have had a disco floor with lamps and people would have to run to the lamps after pressing the button (with timer), just to get a little more action in. Good try tho!

“Bunny Brawl” by YellowPie84
Image
Game concept: Team carrot smacking

We all loved the look of this game, it's so sweet, cute and vibrant! The game itself was not worked out completely we feel, during walking around you break a lot of your own carrots and we were unsure on how to drop our carrots (did it have a counter for each team?)
Another thing we loved is that it's a farming game! A very different concept and that is refreshing.

You guys have given us a lot of inspiration, so we might end up using some of your ideas (whenever we find the time to make more mini-games for the server!) Thanks everybody for participating and cya next buildoff!

Build Off Challenge #70 - "Hidden Treasure Room"

Oh wow, what a great look of builds all around :)
First off: Due to Kong being a bit of messyhead with her wedding next week we have no pictures of the builds other than the favourite this week, I'm very sorry!

Let's get into it!
Our favourite this week is:
"“The Book Case” by HoiImSYDNEH and CANADIAN_PIE
Image
Image
Looks like you have put a lot of thought in this build, even before starting the build. The Book Case itself looks great, the way all the books are different sizes and positioned in different ways looks good! Some of the titles really cracked us up :D The figure looks good, is nicely balanced. We like the treasure chest in the back with the real treasure in it very suiting to the build! Good job guys :)

Our other (photographless) finished builds this week are (in alphabetical order):
“Lara Croft Jumping for Treasure” by CreeperX3
It’s 2 builds in one, it’s different and that's good. On the one hand we have a parkour track (would have been nice if that would lead us somewhere) and on the other we have a build. The action in Lara is great. We're hoping she makes it and doesn’t end up like the skellie at the bottom! Only tip is that Lara could have used some hair :P

“The Secret Staff” by _SansBlueberry_
It’s a nice set dressed overview, it’s def an alchemy station, it’s nice to see someone take the theme into a different direction.
The spell is very cool, we can see the motion in it. The treasure box is empty however, did the spell take the loot already?

“Treasure in the Attic” by TheBlueNinjaz
This is a nice build! I like the fact it’s a gloomy dark attic until you take a night-vision potion and can go explore, with the scale being as it is you really feel like a mice exploring all the nooks and cranny's. It's great!

“Completely Inconspicious Waterfall” by YellowPie84
This build fits this theme perfectly, it’s cute, well hidden, has treasure and a trap you have to turn off.
The only downside is that it would have been greater if it was a bit more elaborate, but good build!

We also counted 3 unfinished/unnamed builds, so thanks for participating everyone and we hope to see you next buildoff!

Abandoned Village - A Ghastly Getaway

Long ago, when the very first settlers came to the world of Sihnon, a small village was discovered atop a hilltop nearby our spawn settlement. The gate to this village was sealed off, but the sounds of voices, cheering, and party happenings could be heard from beyond the walls. For some reason, it seems the gate has opened! Whether or not this serves as a welcome invitation is up to you...
