Ludum Dare 35 - Let's make another game!!!

THEME ANNOUNCED!!!! WE'RE OFF!

The announced theme is : SHAPESHIFT

Proposed game name: Nate 8 (like Ben 10)

We're making a top-down dungeon crawler (think Enter the Gungeon) in which your main character is basically Ben 10. :) Controls will be "twin-stick".

GAMEPLAY:
You cannot shapeshift at will, but enemies will sometimes drop powerups that will change your form. Am thinking maybe 8 forms, each with unique abilities. Forms have a timer, so you will revert to the default form after a while. (Human, maybe mage with basic wand)


Dungeon map:

Player forms:
1 - Big Baymax-type form. Slow-moving, melee/bash attack, can take damge (earth elemental?)
2 - Small, fast goblin (?) that shoots arrows fast - takes damage easily
3 - Mouse - fast, cannot attack, can fit through holes in dungeon wall
4 - Ghost cannot attack, cannot take damage, passes through walls
5 - Ice elemental. Freezes enemies
6 - Fire elemental - shoots fire (big spread)
7- Electric form (bzzzzzz!!!!)
8- Nate: Default form - wizard with robe and basic wand.

LEVEL(s):
We can do one big level maybe, to keep it simple. Can also do loads of copy-paste. :)

SCALE:
- Walls no more than 12 blocks high
- Floor flat - no stairs
- Player and enemies can be 2x scale to level - ie, the in game voxels half the size of the level

THEME/DESIGN:
Whatever!!! Castle/dungeon/sci-fi/abstract/all of the above

OTHER IDEAS:
- Monster generators that spit out monsters of a type till you destroy it
- Locked gates/doors for which you need keys (or the ghost form)

Squishies don't just play Minecraft. Sometimes we get together for a weekend, and make a game! Players build assets on a creative world, then we plonk them into a game of some sort.

The Ludum Dare game jam is happening April 15th to 18th, and we'll be trying again to make a full game from scratch during that time.

EVERYONE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE.

OK, not going to finish tonight - too tired, too much left to do. Game's shaping up well though. Maybe we can make it the "official" Indiesquish game and just keep working on it forever. :P

When all the stuff is in I will give it back to Kas so he can play with the materials and lighting in Unity. Maybe he can pretty it up even more.

I think people might kill me though - I'm starting to wonder if the game might not work better with the walls only a few blocks high... perhaps with a less 3D perspective.

We can chat about it after I get it playable. :)

Let's get it into a proper playable state first before we go nuts with the dungeon. Also starting to wonder if we should mayyybe consider doing a modular dungeon. Rooms seperate but assembled in-engine.

Anyhoo, later... still have loads to do.
